Report from Roger, 4:00 p.m., July 5 This was a wonderful day! Cars and buses have no access to Venice, so the only way in is by train. So our buses took us to a train station where we took a train to the edge of Venice. We walked out of the train station a very short way and took the water taxis, "vaporettos," through the picturesque canals of Venice all the way over to St. Mark's Square. The picture below shows the tall campanile, Doges Palace and the bridge of the sighs clear over to the right. (Click for larger file.) Leaving the boats, we walked by Vivaldi's church. The tour guide told us about Vivaldi and his church, and the orchestra members were surprised that I had given them accurate information. |

We had a bit of time to relax in St. Mark's Square where some bought glassware, some ate lunch, and some had a gondola ride. When it was time to leave, everyone assembled on time to take a leisurely stroll through the narrow, picturesque streets all the way across Venice back to the train station. |

We took the train back to the buses, which took us on to Montecatini Terme. It was a beautiful trip through the countyside of Italy. We arrived at our hotel ready for a late dinner. The hotel has a beautiful pool, but we haven't had time to swim.
Webmaster's note: Our web tracker indicates that we have had visits from Korea; Beijing, China; Taipei, Taiwan; Victoria, B.C., Canada; and Italy. Welcome! |
