Latest update (7/2/07): If you've already seen yesterday's post, a friend of Calvin Sheen's dad took just a couple of pictures from the rehearsal in Salzburg, and I've inserted them into that day's entry, here. Today was another big travel day. On the ferry on the way to Herrenchiemsee Castle, built by King Ludwig after his obsession over Louis XIV and his Versailles Palace. It was drizzly that day (July 2) The first stop was Mad King Ludwig's third palace, the Neues Schloss at Herrenchiemsee, which was modeled after Louis XIV's palace at Versailles, as you can see in this photo from Wikipedia: Even though this imitation Versailles in some ways surpasses the grandeur of the original, Ludwig spent just a total of ten nights there before his mysterious death. Unfortunately, the trip to Innsbruck had to be cut from the itinerary. Due to traffic conditions and crazy weather (rain, hail), the gang wouldn't have arrived in Padua until after midnight. Instead, they drove back through Salzburg into eastern Italy. And in other bad news, a few kids have picked up a mild flu. "The doctor's keeping busy," says Roger--but fortunately the bug seems to be the 24-hour variety, and everyone is feeling better already. Sleeping: Tired Jieun and Gena on the way to Padova from Salzburg via Herrenchiemsee. The kids arrived in Padua at about 9 p.m. for a fantastic Italian dinner: pasta with red bell pepper sauce and a curry chicken with risotto. Dessert was ice cream with fruit. Tomorrow, the whole orchestra will be greeted by the mayor of the city as well as the president of the province of Padua at a press conference at city hall. Their performance that evening will be the culmination of the local music festival, and in between the festivities and the music, they'll get to take a trip to Verona. And you'll hear about it from the CYMO's usual webmaster, my dad Lewie, who's just back from an excursion of his own! If you have any comments or questions, you can reach him at lewisjohnson |
