Latest news, 6/28/07, 4:03 pm: Email from the Samuels! The gang left the hotel to scattered showers at around 9am for a tour of Prague Castle, where they saw St. Vitus Church and St. Wenceslas Castle. They walked down the castle's Golden Lane, where--in the old ramparts--the ancient alchemists tried to turn lead into gold. Prague Castle is in the "Old Town" of Prague; they ate lunch and enjoyed some free time in the "New Town," in an area called the Mala Strana, which dates only as far back as the 14th century. The bus then led them to a guided tour of Karlstejn Castle, outside Prague, which they had to reach by a one-mile walk (and then some) up a steep grade. Dessert: prune dumplings. I'm told it was much, much better than it sounds, and on the way back to the hotel, the combination of rain and sun finally gave way to a beautiful double rainbow.
