CYMO at National Youth Orchestra
Festival 2002, Sarasota, FL News from Roger There is an interview with the young composers
of the pieces played on the concert on the Web site of the Unversity
of South Florida. The address is http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/wusf/news.newsmain?action=article&ARTICLE_ID=365998
The beach was fun. We went to Lido
Beach. The weather was hot and the water was warm. The students
played frisbie, played in the water, basked in the sun, and listened
to the approaching thunder. Luckily, the storm went around us. Everyone in the chamber music did a terrific
job, and the new music pieces were quite nice.
They showed the film "West Side
Story." It was especially appropriate since on the of orchestras
is playing the "West Side Story" symphonic dances. After tonight's concert, there were two
receptions and a pizza feed for the chaperones.
Everyone is healthy. Jason was feeling
a little under the weather when we left Los Angeles, but he is
doing just fine. He has no hint of illness. The Valley Section of the "LA Times"
was supposed to have an article on the trip. If any of you have
it, we would like to see it when we get back. We don't have pictures of the beach or
the concerts because Roger dropped the camera and it won't work.
We've located another camera so maybe we can get more pictures
for you tomorrow.
Message from Janet "On the information that I gave
you I neglected to tell you that the airline we're returning
on is Delta. We are scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles on Sunday,
June 30, at 8:23 p.m. We will be on Delta Flight 603 from Atlanta.
Be sure to check with the airline for the exact time of arrival
before you go to the airport. " You can call Delta at 1-800-325-1999
or go to http://www.delta.com/
and enter the flight number 603.

Today most of the students
went to the Ringling Museum. The museum has two parts, the circus
museum and the art museum. John Ringling donated his art collection
to the State of Florida. The students in tonight's chamber music
concert stayed behind and rehearsed. The artistic director of
the festival stopped me and congratulated Alex and David on their
fine work with the chamber music. There were doing to pieces
that were solos with piano accompaniment.

After the students played
chamber music, the faculty played more chamber music. I have
a message for Karen and Joe Cahill. I dropped the digital camera
that we've been using for the pictures on the Web site. So it
isn't working. But we think we've located a camera that someone
else has that we can use. A friend of Karen Cahill was at our
concert on Tuesday night. Also, several relatives of Aria Woods,
were there too.
