CYMO at National Youth Orchestra Festival 2002, Sarasota, FL

 The CYMO members are divided into four orchestras so their daily schedules aren't the same. Here is the schedule for those who are in Guerrero Orchestra:

8:00 a.m. Breakfast
9:00 a.m. Yoga: Here the students learn techniques to stretch muscles and relax.
10:00 a.m. Sectional rehearsals
12:00 noon Lunch
1:30 p.m. Orchestra rehearsal in Holly Hall (about one block away)
Evening concert in Van Wezel Hall (about one block away)
 

 Janet and Roger have been very impressed with the coaches at the festival. Today they sent a list so that we could see who is working with the students.

Violin
Marylou Speaker Churchill was a former principal second violin of the Boston Symphony Orchestra for 23 years.

Michael Ludwig is the associate concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra.

Viola
Robert Vernon is now in his 26th season with The Cleveland Orchestra as its principal viola.

Cello
Ronald Leonard was a principal cello of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for 24 years.

Bass
Paul Ellison is the professor of double bass at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University and the co-principal bass at both the Aspen and Grand Teton festivals.

 

 Flute
Leone Buyse is the principal flute of the Boston Pops and the assistant principal of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Oboe
Robert Atherholt is the principal oboe of the Houston Symphony and a graduate of the The Julliard School of Music.

Clarinet
Michael Webster is the former principal clarinet of the San Francisco Symphony and the Rochester Philharmonic.

Bassoon
Frank Morelli is principal bassoon of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the New York City Opera, and the American Composers
Orchestra.

Horn
David Wetherill is the principal horn of The Philadelphia Orchestra as first horn and appears frequently with them as a soloist.

 

 Trumpet
Charles Geyer is a co-principal trumpet with the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra and performs as a soloist with Chicago's Music of the Baroque.

Trombone
James DeSano is a professor of trombone at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and the principal trombone with The Cleveland Orchestra.

Harp
Ann Hobson Pilot is the principal harp of the Boston Symphony Orchestra having been the assistant principal and the principal harp of the Boston Pops.

Percussion
Bill Cahn is a member of NEXUS, the Toronto-based percussion ensemble, since 1971.

John Wyre has performed as timpanist for the Oklahoma City Symphony and the Milwaukee Symphony and is also the artistic director of World Drums.
