Chenonceau Castle |
June 28 - Touring and concert in Tours |
|
Roger gave us this report at 1:45 a.m. (4:45 p.m. Pacific).
First of all, the orchestra members are trying to call, but the French phone system is not cooperating. The prepaid cards don't seem to be working. So please don't be alarmed if you haven't heard from them. Everyone is well and having a great time. We hope to have better luck with the phones when we get to Paris in a couple of days.
The hotel is nice. The food is GREAT! We visited Chenonceau Castle and Amboise Castle. They were great. And we put off seeing Chambord Castle until tomorrow.
Tonight's concert was sensational. There were over 250 in attendance. It is a gigantic place; it was built in 1993 so it is very modern with wonderful French design. The Shostakovich was great and the Tchaikovsky was sensational. The woodwinds were superb. Sara, Erin, Sean, and Joanna were fantastic, especially in the Tchaikovsky. We even played "Happy Birthday" for Rebecca Templos.
The concert was very well received. After the concert, we were presented a huge bouquet from a Russian lady from the ballet school. She made some very nice remarks in French. (At least I think she did.) The orchestra members have been so helpful with putting away so many instruments after the concert. David Lee was especially helpful to Carson with the recording equipment.
We then returned to the hotel, got the students some of those great French sandwiches, and sat around in the lobby where we relaxed and chatted.
