June 27, Flight to Europe and

Arrival in Tours

Tours

This report was filed by Roger Samuel at 12:50 a.m.. (3:50 p.m. Pacific).

The flights went very well. The Luftansa crew was wonderful. In Los Angeles the cello and bass players boarded first to tie down their instruments. The crew got to know them and invited James Lee, the youngest cellist, into the cockpit to sit with the pilot and copilot for a while on approach to Frankfurt.

It was a long day, and it was made a bit longer by a couple of kinks in an otherwise smooth itinerary. The group was all boarded ready for its flight from Frankfurt to Paris. The plane taxied down to the runway, and the captain announced that they needed another plane. So after about an hour wait on the plane (with most people sleeping), buses arrived and transferred everyone to another plane. The flight took off about an hour and a half late. It was a great short flight from Frankfurt to Paris.

To go from Charles De Gaulle Airport to Tours you have to take the freeways around Paris. As it turned out, they had to go by Paris during rush hour so the slow traffic delayed their arrival a little more. The buses arrived safely in Tours in the beautiful Loire Valley. They had a wonderful, exquisite, dinner at 10:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. Pacific) and then headed to bed.

In spite of the challenges of the day, the group showed they were seasoned travelers. As some of you may be aware, the French air traffic controllers were on strike yesterday. But it was yesterday only and did not affect the group. It did affect some of their tour guides who couldn't fly to Paris from Belgium yesterday but had to take surface transportation.
