CYMO, July 4th
We got up early this morning and rehearsed the Vivaldi Concerto to be ready for the concert in Assisi. We broke down the stage this morning instead of last night. The percussionists were "our heroes." The just took care of everything.
Then we headed out to Lucerne. Our first stop was the Wagner House. Everybody was really surprised; the really liked. Downstairs there is a museum with a score of Siegfried Idyll, Death Mask, etc. Upstairs there is an instrument collection (including crappy old-fashioned tympani).
Our next stop the the Lion Monument. It is a lion carved out of a mountain. Mark Twain said that this was the saddest face he'd ever seen in his life."
We got lotsa pictures. Actually, we're getting lots of pictures of everything.
In Lucerne we saw the famous Lucerne Bridge and the about 2/3 of the group took the cog train ride up to Mt. Pilatus. The track is so steep that the train has a cog wheel to pull itself up the track. And this is the steepest cog track in the world. Even though it was rainy and cloudy up at the top, you could see everything.
After a wonderful visit to Lucerne, we got back on the bus to head back to our hotel and to a barbecue in Brienz. The barbecue was ostrich sausage. It was REALLY long and wound around a skewer. Everybody enjoyed it. At the dinner we sang "Happy Birthday" to Beth Miller.
I have a few messages.
