This report was filed by Roger at 12:45 p.m. (3:45 Pacific).
We departed from our hotel in Paris at 7:30 this morning. No one was late! We just had a little delay because the hotel didn't have our breakfast ready. We traveled about 400 miles today through some of the most beautiful countryside you could ever see. It was sunny and beautiful. (You may want to check back to the weather satellite link on June 26. - Webmaster) Most of our sightseeing was at rest stops and for lunch. We stopped in Berne and some people visited a hospice, a huge hospital built hundreds of years ago by a king to help the poor.
Wesley Hsi found a great place to get a pizza sandwich - ham, pizza sauce, and cheese. It was great. We aren't far from Dijon so many took advantage and bought REAL Dijon mustard. Michele Wu, Alex Li, Eleanor Li, and friends ordered escargots for lunch, and they claim that they ate them.
Cindy and Margo braided their hair in lots of little tiny braids. They look really cute. Wesley See was selling used batteries for 50 cents. We haven't figured that one out. Rachel Dunham is having a film sale--it seems that she has an Advantix camera and her mother bought her 35 mm film.
It is reported that Beau Brown, Wesley Hsi, and Chris Caridi can imitate the sounds of all the animals that they saw today in France and Switzerland. They also make the sounds of the crops they saw--a sound for corn, a sound for beans, and so on.
We drove past Fontaine Bleu, the home of Nadia Nielsen, and also through Thun where Brahms spent his summers. We went past Interlochen and arrived at our hotels in Meiringen at about 8:00 p.m.
When we arrived in Meiringen, it was hot and windy. Our hotel has absolutely beautiful views of the Alps and of a waterfall that is lighted at night. They had dinner ready for us. It was wonderful. It was the best meal we've had so far. A very tasty lamb dish, with soup, green beans wrapped in bacon, and fresh fruit for dessert.
The hotel that some of us are in, the Hotel Sherpa, is a nice new hotel. The owner's family has been in Meiringen for 400 years. The hotel where the others are, the Hotel Parque du Sauvage, is where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would come to vacation and to write.
We're looking forward to tomorrow. We'll be hiking up a canyon and playing our third concert.
