Oberammergau

(Report filed by Roger Samuel at midnight German time and 3:00 p.m., June 27, Pacific.)

Tonight was the first concert of the tour. It was VERY exciting. There was a full house! It was followed by a standing ovation and two encores. When the first encore, "Westside Story," was announced, there was a great sigh, "Ohhhh," from the audience. For the second encore, "Stars and Stripes, " the audience enthusiastically clapped along. The concert was a stunning success.

The concert was not without its touching moments. Before the orchestra played "Candide," Stacey spoke to the audience in German. She explained that this was the orchestra's first tour and that this was the first concert of the tour. She expressed the orchestra's appreciation for the wonderful reception that they had been given by the people of Oberammergau. She was very warmly received by the audience.

Jet lag was taking a bit of a toll. More that a few of the orchestra members had trouble keeping their eyes open during slow passages and rests. It very humorous when Daniel Song fell asleep during one of the numbers while he continued to play. Later he told one of the guides that he was dreaming of the Neuschwanstein Castle.

This morning's activities included visiting Weiskirche and Neuschwanstein Castle. To get to the castle there is a 30 minute climb. However, the CYMO group made the climb in 15 minutes! They had to hurry so they could get to rehearsal on time.

Everyone is fine. We're having a truly wonderful time. Tomorrow we are off to Munich and Salzburg.
