
Mission: The Claremont Young Musicians Orchestras are dedicated to the artistic and personal excellence of young musicians and the preservation of symphonic music for future generations.
The CYMO presents major symphonic works and well-known soloists in concert each year at Bridges Hall of Music on the Pomona College campus and at Garrison Theatre on the Scripps College campus in Claremont. The orchestra also presents special concerts for children, many community programs each season, and a performance at Disneyland. Special performances have been given at the Haugh Performing Arts Center in Glendora, Calif. and at Gardiner Springs Auditorium in Ontario, Calif. Their repertoire is expansive and includes works by Beethoven, Britten, Rimsky Korsakov, Mozart, Borodin, Mahler and Shostakovich.
In summer 1997 the CYMO took its inaugural European Concert tour, performing at the Rudolfinum in Prague, Czech Republic; the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria; the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria; the Kleine Theater in Oberammergau, Germany; and at the South Bohemia Music Festival in Bechyne, Czech Republic. The CYMO returned to Europe in 2000, performing at the Municipal Theatre of Tours, France; the Champs Élysées Theater in Paris; the International Music Festival in Meiringen, Switzerland; the Saint Francis Basilica in Assisi; and at Saint Angelo Castle in Rome.
Many graduates of the CYMO have attended some of the most prestigious music schools in the country, including The Juilliard School of Music, the Oberlin Conservatory, the Eastman School of Music, the New England Conservatory, the University of Southern California Thorton School of Music, Yale University School of Music, the Peabody Conservatory, Berkeley College of Music, the San Francisco Conservatory, the Shepherd School of Music, Northwestern University, and Indiana University,among many others.
The CYMO has collaborated with several respected performers and guest conductors from orchestras and conservatories around the country, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, the Pacific Symphony, The Juilliard School, the University of Southern California School of Music, the Shepherd School of Music, and others.
From June 26 to July 8, 1997, the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra took its inaugural European concert tour. Then again in 2000 from June 28 to July 10 , the Orchestra went on another concert tour of Europe. In 2002 CYMO was invited to participate in the prestigious National Youth Orchestra Festival, Sarasota, Florida. They were one of only six orchestras in the nation to receive this honor.
